The Convergence Quotient

What becomes possible when what I carry intersects with what other people carry in the right place, at the right time, around a real need?

Team science enters missional practice here: distinct people, gifts, strengths, professional expertise, infrastructure, community knowledge, and relational trust combine toward an outcome that each component alone could rarely produce.

A mission experience as a learning cycle

Prepare. Implement. Capture. Decide.

01

90 day preparation

Days 1–30 clarify calling, gifts, strengths, professional capital, relationships, place, and community listening. Days 31–60 form the team, permissions, resources, boundaries, and logistics. Days 61–90 rehearse the field plan, verify readiness, confirm handoffs, and set learning questions.

02

Field implementation

Begin with local orientation and listening. Deliver the bounded activity with local leadership, clear roles, consent, scope discipline, communication rhythms, and rapid learning reviews.

03

Debrief and evidence capture

Gather community, partner, participant, and team perspectives. Separate outputs, outcomes, observations, interpretations, and consent governed stories. Record resource stewardship and needed repair.

04

Next assignment decision

Review fruit, cost, fit, invitation, capacity, timing, relationships, and community voice. Decide whether to continue, adapt, hand off, pause, or conclude, then assign responsibilities for the next ninety days.

Nonlinear collaboration

An outcome no single contributor could readily produce alone.

Living demonstration

The 2027 missional journey around the United States.

Dr. Sherry-Ann Brown’s American Field Year serves as a living demonstration of the methodology: relationships before reservations, longer regional stays, community listening, local collaboration, professional contribution, spiritual formation, Local Field Fellowships, book parties, workshops, and iterative learning from place to place.

Complementary responsibility

Clear roles strengthen the field.

Convergence Q45 supplies strategy, formation, planning, mapping, facilitation, team development, implementation support, and learning cycle infrastructure. Spiritual covering, ordination, pastoral authority, and ecclesial accountability remain with the participant’s church or appropriate ministry network. This boundary supports fruitful complementarity with churches and ministry networks, including Patria where the participant holds that relationship.
