Behind the Book
Experience → Theme → Question → Imagination → Fiction
Lived experiences revealed recurring themes. Those themes became creative seeds. Imagination carried the questions into newly created characters, circumstances, relationships, and outcomes.
Author’s Note
Years within medicine, scholarship, teaching, service, faith, and life revealed recurring questions about representation, compassion, spiritual care, physician interiority, calling, hope, fear, suffering, courage, perspective, renewal, and the human heart. Those observations became thematic seeds.
Every story in this collection is original fiction. The fictional characters possess independent identities and histories. Their dialogue, chronology, settings, relationships, circumstances, narrative events, and outcomes belong to the imagined world of the book. Individual characters do not correspond to identifiable patients or other real people.
The emotional terrain may carry the resonance of lived experience. Imagination carries the narratives into newly created lives so the collection may explore medicine, faith, race, calling, suffering, compassion, representation, grace, mercy, and human connection with freedom and integrity.
Pulse and mercy
Pulse carries physiology, diagnosis, evidence, rhythm, mortality, and life. Mercy carries compassion, presence, grace, faith, tenderness, hope, forgiveness, dignity, and love. The book lives where these languages meet.
